A legal battle is now under way between education groups and the federal government over the government’s interpretation of the 1994 Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, or CALEA. The outcome of the case could determine whether schools will have to pay potentially billions of dollars to upgrade their telecommunications networks by next spring.

Enhanced Ed-Data Website

The California Department of Education (CDE) issued a press release on May 5th, 2006: State Schools Chief Jack O’Connell Announces Enhanced Ed-Data Web Site With New Financial Data

SACRAMENTO – State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Ed-Data Partnership today by announcing enhancements to the interactive Ed-Data Web site at Education Data Partnership Home Page, which is also linked to the California Department of Education (CDE) Web site.

“Wading through the wealth of education information we provide to the public can be daunting, but it is necessary to give people access to information they need,” said O’Connell. “The changes to Ed-Data will allow people to easily tap into full financial information about local educational agencies, compare test scores and other data among school districts, and more, so the public can hold schools and students accountable for ensuring California’s children get a good education.”

RIMS CTAP Region 10 Mid-Year Evaluation Report, 2005-06

CTAP Region 10, also known as RIMS CTAP, is one of the eleven CTAP regions providing professional development and support for educational technology throughout California. This interim report on the progress of CTAP 10 in meeting its objectives, as outlined in the 2005-08 comprehensive plan, is for the period July 1 through December 31, 2005, herein referred to as the mid-year review period. This report is based on a formative evaluation documenting implementation progress and use of the services. An end-of-year report addressing the complete 2005-06 school year will include both formative and summative, or impact, evaluation as well as recommendations for improving CTAP 10 services in the immediate and long-range future.
