EdTechProfile By the Numbers - April 2006
Did you know that there are 38,653 teachers in Region 10, RIMS, which covers Riverside, Inyo, Mono, and San Bernardino counties? Would you believe that on April 7th, 26,021 of those teachers had current EdTechProfile accounts? That is a WHOPPING 67% of the teachers in our region!
What constitutes a “current” EdTechProfile account?
When a teacher completes the Technology Assessment Profile portion of the EdTechProfile, their account is “current” for 18 months. It stays “current” for 18 months to cover the requirements of various grant programs that schools and districts are involved with. As an example, principals who participate in the AB75 program need to have their staff complete the Technology Assessment Profile and the AB75 Supplemental Survey during their year of participation in the AB75 Program. Since a principal’s participation in the AB75 program can extend over two summers, the 18 month window precludes the principal’s need to run around during summer vacation making sure everyone’s account is fresh for their second summer!
When looking at your EdTechProfile account on the Home Tab page, you want to notice the DATE following the STATUS of your account. If that date is within the current school year, you can be sure that the data is up-to-date for the needs of your site administrator and your district office. If the date is not within the current school year, you should plan to update your account before the end of the current school year. So, if you checked your account on April 1, 2006, and your STATUS DATE is, say, 04/27/2005, your account would be “current” because that date falls within the 18-month window. However, your account would not be up-to-date, as 04/27/2005 falls within the last school year. You should update your account for this school year.
Many districts and individual school sites request that their teachers update their EdTechProfile accounts on an annual basis at a specific time of the year. Some districts have decided to make EdTechProfile updates a part of the end-of-year check out process. Others have designated a specific month to have teachers update. Yet others have teachers update whenever they participate in a technology related professional development workshop, or following summer workshops or institutes that incorporate technology integration in the classroom.
Keeping your account updated allows those who plan professional development to have an accurate view of the needs of the district. State and local officials view EdTechProfile numbers to determine technology funding needs throughout the state.
