EdTechProfile by the Numbers – October 2007
Now would be a good time to check your state approved District Technology Plan or your site plans to determine your staff development needs for the school year. Many sites and districts need to develop their agendas for upcoming buy-back or teacher inservice days. What better way to satisfy those hours with meaningful staff development that addresses the needs of the students using the technology resources that are provided by the state-adopted materials?
Many times teachers have been given supplemental resources that can be used to support their teaching through publishers' websites. However, there are still many teachers who have not developed a personal plan to incorporate those supplemental resources in their daily teaching only because they have not been provided sufficient training in their use.
EdTechProfile provides staff developers needed data to put together meaningful workshops that address the needs of the district’s teachers. Reports that are available through EdTechProfile address components of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Standards 9 and 16 (which are the Standards of Quality and Effectiveness for Professional Teacher Induction Programs). Some of the data that can be accessed will provide staff developers with information on:
- How often teachers are using technology to present their lessons;
- In what subject areas teachers are using technology to present their lessons;
- How often and in what subject areas teachers are assigning students work using technology resources;
- Whether or not teachers know best practices in technology integration and how to adapt them to what is needed in their classroom;
- plus many other items for starting good conversations at staff meetings.
Most schools and all districts have an EdTechProfile Lead/Admin who is able to access the multitudes of reports that are available through EdTechProfile. Most principals who have attended AB430 (previously AB75) Principal Training Module 3 have been introduced to the reports and how they can be used at school sites. These principals have been given EdTechProfile Lead/Admin rights to access the reports. Principals who have not attended AB430 (or AB75) Module 3 can contact their district technology person to access the reports for their school site.
Of course, both district and site administrators want to have current, up-to-date information when pulling EdTechProfile reports. When teachers are asked to update their EdTechProfile accounts–which should be done on an annual basis–instructions have been developed to make accessing accounts an easy process. These instructions are available at: http://ctap10.org/~gregg/ETP/updatingETP.htm
Any questions regarding EdTechProfile and/or its reports can be directed to your Regional EdTechProfile Administrator. Their names can be found at: http://www1.edtechprofile.org/region_admin.php
