EdTechProfile by the numbers – February 2008

Many of us recall the time that EdTechProfile was known as CTAP2. Now that EdTechProfile has been around for a few years, it is possible for sites and districts to get longitudinal data on their staff that have been diligently updating their EdTechProfile accounts each year.
With that comes another feature. Teachers who have been updating each year can see their individual growth from their base line year to their most recent update. Teachers in the region who have each year updated their EdTechProfile Proficiency Analysis Report (PAR) now have a series of updates listed when they log into their account. These are teachers who each year remember their log in information and continue to add to their growth each year, rather than creating a new account each year or each site they move to.
For an individual teacher to see his/her data and growth over time, they first need to log into their EdTechProfile account. Once logged in, a click on the Proficiency Analysis Report tab will take them to the page that provides a current summary. To the left, there are three options to choose from: Summary, Current Profile, and History. A click on the History link will show a list of the user’s completed updates. To the right of each update is a link “Compare to Baseline.” Clicking on any one of those will present the user with a before and after comparison to their Proficiency Analysis Report results–a very nice way to show growth over time.
A site or a district can also see growth over time by running a report called the “Technology Assessment Profile: Comparison Proficiency Analysis Report.” This report can compare historical data between two specified dates. The system is designed to compare those scores between the two dates by an entity, be it a school or a district, but only choosing user records that exist for those two dates. The system would not show what the school as a whole looked like on date one then compare that data with what the school looked like on date two. As an example: ABC School wants to run a comparison of EdTechProfile results from year 2005 results when they started a technology program and compare that with year 2008 results after three years of implementation. In 2005 ABC School had 50 teachers. Of those 50 teachers, only 34 of them were still at ABC School in 2008 to update their EdTechProfile accounts. Therefore, the report would only compare the results of those 34 teachers who had accounts in 2005 and updated in 2008.
For a district report, the same comparison would happen, providing the user accounts remained within the district over the requested time period. This is the reason why it is very important to have users update their existing accounts, rather than creating new accounts each year or each time a user moves to a different school site. Comparisons can also be made between two dates by specifying grade levels and / or subject areas and / or school types. All report creation is accessed through My Reports section found on the Administration tab.
